ND Baseball 4, Mississippi Valley St. 0: Notre Dame freshman Brian Dupra tossed 7 shutout innings and junior Evan Sharpley added his team-best 10th home run of the season to lead the Irish (29-12-1) in college baseball action Tuesday night at Frank Eck Stadium.
Dupra improved to 3-2 on the year and the outing was tied for the longest of his career (equaled the 7 innings he pitched in his last start on April 22 against Chicago State). The right-handed hurler scattered six hits and issued just one walk, along with a career-high six strikeouts.
The Irish finally put some breathing room between themselves and the Delta Devils in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman Mick Doyle led off the frame with a single. After A.J. Pollock drew a two-out walk, Sharpley belted the first offering from Chris Mills down the right field line for a 3-run homer to give ND a 4-0 lead.
ND Softball 6, Valparaiso 0: Beth Northway was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate for ND (35-17-1) with a double and one RBI.
Brianna Jorgensborg and Erin Marrone each had two-out singles in the fifth to break a scoreless tie.
The Irish added three more runs in the third on an RBI double by Linda Kohan and a 2-run single by Jorgensborg.
Brittney Barger (27-10) gave up three hits and struck out 11 for ND.
Snappers 3, Silver Hawks 2: Hawk third baseman Ramon Ramirez had two hits and a run but made a costly error in the tenth inning to let in the winning run
The Hawks scored in the second inning on consecutive singles by Ramirez, Konrad Schmidt, and Matthew Oxendine. Schmidt had three hits for the game.
South Bend tied the score in the eighth when Evan Frey (.347 average) led off with a double. He scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error by Beloit catcher Daniel Lehmann.
The Snappers loaded the bases in the 10th on Hawk reliever Evan Scribner (0-3). Mark Dolenc scored the winning run on Ramirez’ error.
The final game of the series and the road trip is today at noon.
The Silver Hawks (7-17) are back at the Cove Friday against Peoria to begin a 10-day homestand.

Hillary Schedules Return to South Bend: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will return to South Bend this morning for a tour and discussion with Deluxe Sheet Metal employees.
The Clinton campaign announced Tuesday night that the senator will make a visit at 9:20 a.m. Her stop at the Deluxe Sheet Metal facility at 6561 Lonewolf Drive in the Blackthorn area is closed to the public.
This will be Clinton’s fourth visit to Michiana during the primary season. Her most recent visit was last Saturday for a Coveleski Stadium rally. She also took a private tour of the AM General plant in Mishawaka.
A recent WSBT poll shows the Indiana primary race between Clinton and Barack Obama is too close to call. Hoosier voters will get to choose between the two next Tuesday.
Democrats will also get to choose between Jim Schellinger and Jill Long Thompson for the gubernatorial nomination.
Three Injured in Dog Attacks: Two men were injured in a dog attack on South Bend’s west side and a child was bitten on the east side, with both attacks happening around 3 p.m., Tuesday afternoon
In the west-side attack in the 100 block of South Chestnut Street, a South Bend police officer fatally shot a dog after it reportedly attacked two men, including its owner. Patrolman Paul Strabavy Tasered the dog, but the Taser apparently had no effect.
The other attack was in the 1500 block of South Leer Street. A small child was bitten several times by a white Labrador mix and was taken to an area hospital.
A neighbor said the animal and a pit bull mix broke out of a backyard and attacked the 7-year-old boy, who was out riding his bike.
