Municipal Elections:
The issue was never in doubt in South Bend as Mayor Steve Luecke (D) beat Republican challenger Juan Manigualt with 62% of the vote. Luecke is the longest-serving Mayor of South Bend with 11 years in office.
In Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rea (R) survived a last-minute negative ad campaign to defeat Penn Twp. Trustee Mike Hayes (D) with 53% of the vote.
Plymouth Mayor Gary Cook (D) lost his bid for reelection to fellow police officer Mark Senter (R).
Other mayoral winners: Elkhart, Democrat Dick Moore; Goshen, Democratic incumbent Allan Kauffman; Warsaw, Republican Ernest Wiggins; Knox, Democrat Rick Chambers; Rochester, Republican Mark Smiley.
South Bend City Council members will be: Democrats Karen White, Al Kirsits, Tim Rouse, Derek Dieter, Henry Davis, Tom LaFountain, Ann Puzzello, Oliver Davis, and Republican David Varner.
Mishawaka City Council winners: Democrats Dale Emmons, Ross Deal (five-vote margin), Mike Compton, Ron Banicki, John Gleissner, Gregg Hixenbaugh, and John Roggeman, Republicans Dave Wood and Marsha McClure.
South Bend’s John Voorde (D) and Mishawaka’s Debbie Ladyga-Block (D) were unopposed in City Clerk races.
