Wizards 8, Lugnuts 1: The Silver Hawks were idle but they got a boost from their fellow Hoosier team. The Hawks (36-22) now lead the Dragons and Lugnuts by four games each.
The Silver Hawks (36-22) lead the Lansing Lugnuts by 3 ½ games and the Dayton Dragons by four. Their magic qualifying number is five.
The Silver Hawks travel to Great Lakes tonight to begin an eight-game road trip.

Joe Gibbs Racing Penalized: Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Tony Stewart and Joey Logano have each been stripped of 150 Sprint Cup points for cheating.
Gibbs crew chiefs Jason Ratcliff and Dave Rogers have been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR.
The action was taken after magnets were found under the gas pedals of Stewart and Logano’s cars.
Kerry-Misti Defend Olympic Gold: Kerri Walsh and Misti May-Treanor won their second consecutive Olympic beach volleyball gold medal last night with a 21-18, 21-18 win over China’s Tian Jia and Wang Jie.
It was the 108th consecutive match win for the USA duo; they didn’t lose a set at Beijing.

SBCSC Board To Pass Buck: The South Bend Community School Corporation Board of Trustees has decided to start a national search for Superintendent Robert Zimmerman’s re-placement, but defer the decision to the next Board.
The board recently settled with Zimmerman on a contract buyout. James Kapsa, former Jefferson Intermediate School principal, is the acting superintendent.

U.S. Rep. Tubbs Jones Dies: U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio), 58, died Wednesday of a brain hemorrhage.
Tubbs Jones was the first African-American woman to represent an Ohio district and the first to serve on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. She was also the chairman of the House ethics committee.
