Chelsea for Congress: For those of you (maybe I’m the only one) who are wondering if Chelsea Clinton might be interested in the vacant New York Congressional seat, it won’t necessarily be that easy.Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc.:

New York Gov. David Paterson appointed the former U.S. representative from the largely rural district, Kirsten Gillibrand, to replace Chelsea’s mom, Hillary, in the U.S. Senate.
When a Congressional seat becomes open, however, a special election needs to be held and there are probably residency requirements (although the Clintons have been able to get around those).
Chelsea would have the advantage of her name recognition, her education--a bachelor’s degree from Stanford and a master’s degree in international relations from Oxford (the one in England, not the one in Arkansas which Jethro Bodine attended)--and the fact that she has had more experience campaigning than the average person.
Chelsea also hasn’t formally stated whether she is interested in Senator-designate Gillibrand’s seat since it just became open. It would give her an opportunity to help carry on her mother’s work in Congress.
She’s at a good age to begin a political career, 28; no one can question her qualifications for a Congressional seat like they did Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg’s for the vacant Senate seat.
It would be an advantage for the district. Having Chelsea as their representative in Congress would give the district recognition.
