Local Musician Killed: Mishawaka native Christopher Johnson, 32--lead singer of the alternative band “Useless Wooden Toys”—was stabbed to death in Bloomington Saturday.

Police say Johnson was stabbed to death in an altercation with a Warsaw man.

Konrad Schmidt had three hits for South Bend—including a lead-off double in the second. Derrick Walker had two hits—including a double in South Bend’s 3-run third inning--two RBIs and two runs. Taylor Harbin contributed a double and single.

Starter Jarrod Parker and reliever Clay Zavada (1-0) combined for 11 strikeouts. Zavada picked up his first win of the season.

Schilling Has Shoulder Surgery; Could Come Back: Curt Schilling could come back from yesterday’s rotator cuff surgery despite his age.

Doctors said there was no meaningful rotator cuff problem as feared in the shoulder which means the 41-year-old right-hander could make a comeback if he wants to.

Schilling could be throwing off a mound by January and back in the rotation by the middle of next season.

Imus Makes Racially-Charged Remark Again: Radio host Don Imus is on the hot seat again after making a racially-tinged remark on his show.

While discussing the arrest of NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones, Imus asked “What color is he?”

Told that Jones is African-American, Imus responded: “There you go. Now we know.”

Imus was fired by CBS radio after he made a racial and gender insensitive remark about the NCAA runner-up Rutgers women’s basketball team
