Former Penn Student Sentenced: A 16-year-old former Penn High School student has been sentenced to the state juvenile correctional system for his role in planning a Columbine-style assault at the school. He could remain in the system until he turns 21.
Man Arrested in Food Bank Scam: Joseph DeBartolo, 46, has been arrested for allegedly soliciting money in the name of the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival: The College Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival will be July 18 and 19 with Joe Paterno, Doug Flutie, Chris Zorich, and the entire class of 2008.
Events will include the Enshrinement Grand Parade in downtown South Bend starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and the FanFest--featuring the Hall of Famer Flag Football Game-- Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Silver Hawks 8, Timber Rattlers 5: Recent draftee Collin Cowgill had two hits, one run, and three RBIs for the visiting Hawks (16-11).
Cowgill--the South Bend centerfielder--had a 3-run single in the fourth inning; one of the runs scored on an error by the opposing centerfielder.
Another newcomer, Joseph Batten, had two hits, two runs and two walks. Sean Coughlin and Elijah Rumler each had two hits and a run.
Starter Joshua Collmenter (10-5) went seven innings and gave up five hits, two runs, one earned run and struck out four.
The Hawks remain a game behind the Lansing Lugnuts, who beat the Peoria Chiefs 8-7.

Mandela Celebrates 90th: Nelson Mandela, who went from political prisoner to President of South Africa, celebrated his 90th birthday today at his home in Qunu, a small village in South Africa's eastern Cape region.
Gore Challenges U.S. to Go Green: Former Vice President Al Gore challenged the United States to shift its electrical production to carbon-free win, solar, and geothermal power within 10 years.
Gore made the challenge at a speech to 1,000 supporters at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington. He insists that the transformation is doable, even though renewable energy currently accounts for only 2.5% of the electricity generated in the U.S.
