Zimbabwe Talks Continue: Talks continue in Pretoria, South Africa, between opposing sides in the aftermath of Zimbabwe’s recent elections.
The only statement coming out amidst a news blackout came from President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF, insisting the negotiations will not lead to MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) rule.
MDC won control of Zimbabwe’s parliament and its presidential candidate, Morgan Tsvangirai outpolled Mugabe in the general election.
Tsvangirai did not get enough votes to claim outright victory and pulled out of a scheduled runoff after Mugabe’s supporters used violence, intimidation, and censorship. A Zimbabwean freelance journalist was beaten severely and jailed
